I saw "The Fog" remake this past weekend, and I have to say it was very disappointing. Totally lacking any inspiration or new ideas. Too many scenes that mirrored the original Carpenter classic in my opinion. At least with the "Dawn of the Dead" remake and "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" remake they took the general idea and did something different with it. The same can't be said for this waste of celluloid.

Anyone else out there seen it? If so what are your thoughts? Do you agree? Do you think I'm totally insane?
I haven't seen it yet. Meant to because that Tom Welling is dreamy.

I guess a remake guarantees an certain amount at the box office. I'm sort of tired of them myself but what can ya do? The morons with the power and money are going to keep making them as long as we keep going to see them.

Oh, yeah, that Tom Welling is dreamy all right. The first person that comes to mind when I think of a hardened fisherman.

I having nothing against remakes as long as they bring something new to the table. Carpenter's "The Thing" is far superior to the Howard Hawks'--excuse me--the Christian Nyby version on every level.

I think Cronenberg's "The Fly" is better than the original.

"The Amityville Horror" remake (I know some people will want me dead for saying this) is better than all versions previous, even with its flaws.

"The Fog" remake, though, has pretty much convinced me not to hit the theater for a while. Like you said if we keep going, the pinheads in the ivory towers will keeping greenlighting them.

This is a very frustrating time for screenwriters, established or not, because studios won't do anything unless it's based on a comic, novel, older movie, video game, or television show.

Thank God I'm writing comics and novels now!

Wow, then the first one must have be truely atrocious. :p

Argh! I've been waiting years for a DOOM movie and now I finally get one and it's been universally declared a complete failure on every level. It's just not a good time to be a movie fan.

I didn't think the original was very good. But what the hell do I know? I'm just a wise ass. Check it out for yourself and compare. The "Jodi" change was better in the remake than in the original, I thought. If you see the original you'll know what I mean.

If it's something you really want to go see you should do so. Remember, one person's turd is another's banana cream pie! Just because others hate it doesn't mean you can't enjoy it.

I dunno about that, for one thing:

DOOM: A game about monsters from hell.

DOOM: A movie where the monsters aren't from hell.

I mean, how can they even call it DOOM when the monsters aren't from Hell? They may have well just decided to make the movie about a bunch of fairies who have to fight space-unicorns with plasma rifles strapped to their heads. Smile

That being said I'll still drop $10 to go see it in the theater but only so I can complain with more autority. Smile

If you do see it this weekend let me know what your thoughts are. As a non-Doom player I don't care if it's like the game or not. I just want to see a good movie.

I read Dean Lorey's draft of Doom years ago...back when...I forget his name, the bonehead who produced the Ghostbuster movies was doing it. Anyway, Ah'nald was loosely attached and for some reason it never moved forward but wow was it an amazing script. And yes, they were from hell.

It had one of the absolute best twists I've ever read in a script. And now they're making this one. Figures.

Is Dean's script posted anywhere on the net for public consumption?

On another note, just curious if you've heard anything through the grapevine regarding "I Am Legend" over at Warners. Last I heard, Francis (Constantine) Lawrence was going to direct. Hope they use the Protosevich draft. It's by far the best version I've read, even though it differs vastly from the book, which is one of my all time faves. Chances are they won't, though.

I thought the John Logan draft sucked. Surprising since I do think he's a strong writer otherwise.

I know Dean looked for his draft a year or so back and couldn't find it. I'll ask again if he ran across it. I'd even post it here somewhere. I keep intending on creating a Scripts section.

As for Legend...we're on the same page. I'll ask around, see what I can find out.
