So, Devin, I got this new computer to tide me over until my Alienware gets fixed (if ever) and the thing is hopelessly glitchy. It seems to freeze up all the time, can barely complete a download and refuses to acknowledge certain commands through the start button (like shut down, or restart).

This needs intervention from you.

Would you be available to come by the house sometime and see if you can make this thing work? I'd insist on paying you something.

Please let me know. Time is of the essence. Situation critical!

Sounds like trouble. Who's it made by, where'd you buy it, and can you still return it?

Sounds to me like you could have a bad motherboard which would explain all those problems, the freezing, the loss of networking (most likely integrated ethernet) and the not shutting down/restarting.
